Morrisonasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that since the introduction of supplementary pensions, campaign pensioners from Chelsea Hospital are worse off financially than if they had not 912 accepted a pension, since Chelsea Hospital will not allow pensioners to have an income exceeding £1 per week for a single man or 30s. per week for a married couple which is less than would be paid to supplementary pensioners; and will he take steps to remove this anomaly?
§ Mr. SandysMy hon. Friend is under a misapprehension. There is nothing to preclude an old age pensioner in receipt of a supplementary pension from receiving a special campaign pension as well. The supplementary pension is not counted as income for the purpose of calculating special campaign pension. The Assistance Board also advise me that they disregard the first 7s. 6d. a week of a special campaign pension in assessing a supplementary pension.
