HC Deb 05 March 1942 vol 378 cc778-9
2. Mr. Hannah

asked the Minister of Labour, whether he is aware of the large number of useful one-man businesses that are being sacrificed to the war effort; and will he take steps that, so far as it can be done without sacrificing the interests of the Fighting Services, more consideration shall be given to small shopkeepers?

Mr. Bevin

Following the promise that I gave in the House in the course of Debate on the National Service (No. 2) Bill, 1941, I have amended the National Service (Postponement Certificates) Regulations so as to abolish the limit of 12 months beyond which postponement certificates could not previously run in these cases.

Mr. Hannah

Is the Minister aware that many small businesses are being sacrificed, to the very great detriment of local conditions?
