asked the President of the Board of Education, whether, in connection with the 50 scholarships, valued at £2,000 a year, to be awarded to selected boys in secondary and public schools to enable them to study oriental languages, a particular number is to be allocated to the public schools?

No, Sir. These scholarships, the value of which is £200 a year, will be awarded on the merits of the candidates irrespective of the type of school which they are attending.
