HC Deb 05 March 1942 vol 378 cc787-8
24. Mr. Daggar

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that payments made to applicants for public assistance are, in many instances, considerably in excess of those made to old age pensioners; and will he take steps to effect an improvement in the financial condition of these people?

The Minister of Health (Mr. Ernest Brown)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the Reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Normanton (Mr. T. Smith) on 11th September last, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. Daggar

Can the Minister intimate to the Assistance Board the need for a supplementary pension to be given which is something like that in accordance with the rate paid by the public assistance committees?

Mr. Brown

Perhaps my hon. Friend will look at the Answer, and I will draw his remarks to the attention of the Board.
