38. Mr. David Adamsasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, for the better utilisation of its resources and in view of the urgent need for cement in the islands, the Government now intend to establish a factory for this purpose in Jamaica?
§ Mr. Harold MacmillanNo, Sir. I have nothing to add to the reply given to my hon. Friend by my predecessor on 19th November, 1941.
Mr. AdamsDoes not the right hon. Gentleman recognise that the situation has substantially changed since that time and that there is an urgent demand in Jamaica, as evidenced in the public Press there, for the establishment of such a factory?
§ Mr. MacmillanThe situation has changed, and changed for the worse. It would be more than ever unwise to release steel for the building of such a factory.
