HC Deb 05 March 1942 vol 378 cc793-4
32. Mr. Davidson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can now make a statement, in answer to recent representations, on the question of Income Tax on overtime in war industries?

Captain Crookshank

My right hon. Friend would refer my hon. Friend to the reply he gave to the hon. Member for Dumbarton Burghs (Mr. Kirkwood) on 14th October last.

Mr. Davidson

Is the right hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that this Income Tax on overtime has created very bitter feelings in the workshops and in industry generally, and that it is creating a production lag? Will he make a statement on this question?

Mr. Stokes

Will the Chancellor consider altering the incidence of Income Tax so that it is collected on current earnings instead of past earnings?
