HC Deb 05 March 1942 vol 378 cc794-5
34. Sir George Broadbridge

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, whether he is aware of the heavy consumption of paper involved by the existing statutory requirement that collecting societies must deliver copies of their rules to all their policy holders; and whether he will take steps to stop this excessive use of paper?

Captain Crookshank

Yes, Sir. An Order is being made under emergency powers under which a collecting society will only have to supply a copy of its rules, free of charge, to a policy-holder who asks for it within six months of the issue of the policy. A statement setting out the right to demand a free copy of the rules will have to be furnished with every policy. The Association of Collecting Friendly Societies have agreed that their members will give notice of changes in their rules involving any amendment of the contract of assurance by means of advertisement in the Press.
