HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 c655
75. Sir R. Clarry

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will give reasons for the high and increasing number of cases of absence of employees from Government and factory work due to minor and trivial ailments, with or without a doctor's certificate?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. McCorquodale)

I am not aware of any evidence of a general increase in cases of this kind, but if my hon. Friend will send me information as to any particular factory or factories which he has in mind, I shall be glad to have special inquiries made there.

Sir R. Clarry

Is the Minister aware that doctors have every desire to carry out their duties, but by force of circumstances they have to make very brief and superficial examinations in giving certificates?

Mr. McCorquodale

I am not aware of that, but I will make inquiries through the Ministry of Health.
