HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 cc649-50
63. Mr. A. Edwards

asked the Minister of Information how many people are occupied with the production of news bulletins in the British Broadcasting Corporation?

Mr. Bracken

The 103 news bulletins issued daily in the various services of the B.B.C. involve in various capacities a staff of 544, some 300 of whom also share in announcing and general programme work.

Mr. Edwards

Does the Minister consider that with such a large number of people employed, we get adequate news?

Mr. Bracken

I think that with the number of people employed there is rather too much news. I would rather like to see them cut it down.

Captain John Dugdale

Would it not be possible to cut down, not the news, but the views?
