HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 cc627-8
7. Mr. Purbrick

asked the Secretary of State for Air the amount of overtime paid in his Department during the last month for which the figures are available; is he satisfied that each person drawing overtime has actually worked fully in all his ordinary time; and in what manner this is checked?

Captain Balfour

The amount of overtime paid to Air Ministry headquarters staff, including evacuated staff during the month of January, 1942, was £35,380. The figure for outstations staff is not readily available. The staff concerned are under supervision and they are fully and continuously employed. It is the responsibility of the supervising officers to see that the amount of overtime worked is sufficient but no more than sufficient to meet requirements.
