HC Deb 03 March 1942 vol 378 c509
40. Sir R. Clarry

asked the Prime Minister whether he will define the duties and scope of the Inter-Departmental Committee for Insurance and Social Service, operating from the office of the War Cabinet?

The Deputy Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

As stated by my right hon. Friend the Member for Wakefield (Mr. Greenwood) on 10th June, 1941, when announcing the setting up of the Interdepartmental Committee under the chairmanship of Sir William Beveridge, their duty is to make a comprehensive survey of existing schemes of social insurance and allied services, taking into account representations received from responsible organisations and persons concerned with the problems involved.

Sir R. Clarry

Would my right hon. Friend agree that this is one of the essentials for pursuing the National War Effort?
