HC Deb 03 March 1942 vol 378 cc512-3
44. Dr. Russell Thomas

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has any information to give in regard to our ability to obtain foreign currency?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Kingsley Wood)

The House has been informed of the contribution of one billion dollars by Canada, and of the Lend-Lease arrangements with the U.S.A. I would only say it remains essential to conserve our foreign exchange resources for vital war needs, and we shall continue to administer our Regulations accordingly.

Dr. Thomas

Is it the intention to use the pottery industry to obtain foreign bills? Is the extension of juvenile labour in the pottery industry due to pressure from the Treasury, or is it necesssary under the Lend-Lease Act?

Sir K. Wood

I should be obliged if my hon. Friend would put that Question down.
