25. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for War why Corporal Mannion, No. 3710078, King's Own Royal Regiment, having been accepted as a fit man on enlistment and been continuously examined by military medical officers and found not suffering from any disease during the period of his service, five years 345 days, has been deprived of one year 185 days arrears of pension; and under what Act or regulation this decision was arrived at?

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to him on 30th April.

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the father of this man is profoundly dissatisfied with the decision arrived at by the War Office, and is completely unable to understand the principles on which it is based?

It is a general principle, which is not only applicable to the War Office but to the Ministry of Pensions and similar pension-paying Departments. If the hon. Member wants the principle defended, I think he should put that point to someone other than me.
