§ 32. Mr. Sorensenasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent the barrack dwellings in Trinidad, which the 1937 Commission recommended should be swept away, have been demolished and alternative accommodation provided; and what proportion of workers and their families have been transferred to better accommodation?
§ Mr. Harold MacmillanI regret that the information desired by my hon. Friend is not available in the Colonial Office: but the Trinidad Government has made considerable progress in its housing schemes. I Would invite my hon. Friend's attention to the reply given to a Question by him on I2th May. If my hon. Friend desires, I should be glad to send him a copy of a recent report from the Governor on housing in Trinidad.
§ Mr. SorensenWould it not be possible at least to inquire from the Governor of Trinidad exactly what progress has been made, so that we might have some idea as to whether a certain portion of these barrack houses has been demolished?
§ Mr. MacmillanThat is why I suggested sending this recent report to my hon. Friend.
