§ 7. Mr. Burkeasked the Minister of Labour whether he is satisfied with the response to the appeal made by him in conjunction with the Cotton Controller for operatives to return to the mills; and how many have volunteered for part-time employment?
§ Mr. McCorquodaleIt is too early as yet for the measures which have been taken to have shown results upon which my right hon. Friend can say whether he is satisfied, or for figures to be given. The matter is being pressed forward vigorously, and I will let my hon. Friend have the figure he requires as soon as the results can be assessed.
§ Mr. SutcliffeCan my hon. Friend say whether everything possible is being done to encourage part-time employment among women, because I think that the solution largely lies along those lines?
§ Mr. McCorquodaleCertainly, Sir, we are doing everything we can to support that scheme.
