§ 26. Mr. Rileyasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what welfare schemes have now been put into operation in the West Indies under the Colonial Development Act?
§ Mr. Harold MacmillanUp to date 80 schemes under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act have been made, involving assistance amounting to a total of £947,179 to the West Indian Colonies. As I said in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend on 21st May, a schedule of all the schemes which are in operation under the Act will be included in a report which my Noble Friend hopes to issue shortly.
§ Mr. MacmillanIt depends upon what is meant by operation. If you mean that a railway scheme is in operation when a railway has been completed, in that sense it is not in operation, but if you mean when a railway is being built, then in that sense it is in operation.
