HC Deb 10 June 1942 vol 380 c1062
67. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary for Petroleum what proportion of oil supplied from the United States of America, from September, 1939, to date, has been included under the Lend-Lease arrangement, or whether it has all been paid for in cash?

The Secretary for Petroleum (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

Since July, 1941, practically the whole of the supplies of oil to the United Kingdom from the United States have been made available under Lend-Lease.

Mr. Stokes

How is payment made to the Government?

Mr. Lloyd

The Petroleum Board is charged the full market price by the British Government, which thus derives the whole of the benefit

Mr. Stokes

Do the Fighting Services pay the Petroleum Board for the petrol supplied to them, so that the money may then be passed on to the Exchequer, and do the Government therefore raise loans at interest wherewith to pay themselves?
