HC Deb 10 June 1942 vol 380 c1060
63. Sir C. Edwards

asked the Minister of Agriculture what complaints he has had from hillside farmers about the difficulty of getting tractors to do their work; if he is aware that many of these are used on flat land where horses could do the work instead of on the more difficult farms where it is impossible to do the ploughing and other work by other means; and will he look into this matter with a view to rectifying the same?

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

I am not aware that hillside farmers have exceptional difficulty in getting tractors to do their work. All the county committees have been supplied with tractors, including tracklayers, which are available for work on hillside farms, but I shall be pleased to consider the circumstances of any particular district in this matter. As it is necessary to get the greatest possible output from these tractors, it must be for the local committee to decide where they can be employed to the best advantage.
