HC Deb 04 June 1942 vol 380 c799
28. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been called to the efforts made by students to organise voluntary work as a contribution to the national need during the long vacation, in addition to military and Civil Defence duties already being undertaken by them; and what steps he is taking to encourage these efforts?

Mr. Butler

I know and welcome the general desire among students to do war work in the long vacation. I understand that whereas no difficulty is anticipated in the students making their own arrangements for securing agricultural work, guidance is desired as to the best means of securing temporary work in factories. I am in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour and National Service on the subject, and hope that it may soon be possible to give such guidance in general terms.
