§ Mr. Arthur Greenwood (Wakefield)I wish to ask the Leader of the House two questions: First, whether he can make any statement about the Government's proposals with regard to the coal industry, and, second, whether he can indicate the suggested course of Business for to-day?
§ Sir S. CrippsThe Government's proposal in regard to coal will be contained in a White Paper which will be available to Members in the Vote Office on the next Sitting Day, shortly before the rising of the House. The Government will invite 528 the House to approve the proposals, and arrangements will be made for a Debate to take place during the next series of Sitting Days. It is proposed to provide two days for a discussion which will take place on a Government Motion.?
With regard to Business for to-day, as already announced, we propose to take Business up to and including the sixth Order on the Order Paper, and, if there is time, we hope to obtain the Second Reading of the Post Office and Telegraph (Money) Bill and the Motion to approve the Bricks (Charges) Order.
On the 2nd and 3rd Sitting Days, as already announced, we hope to obtain the Committee stage of the War Damage (Amendment) Bill.
If there is time on the 3rd Sitting Day, we shall ask the House to approve the Milk Marketing (Special Areas) (Scotland) (Charges) Order.
§ Sir P. HarrisWith reference to the coal industry, are we to understand that the Government's recommendations are definite recommendations which the Government are anxious to put through without delay?
§ Sir S. CrippsThe right hon. Gentleman will see what the White Paper says. It is the Government's policy as regards coal.
