54. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that it is common for cows which react to tests for tuberculosis to be sent to market and sold as healthy cows, thereby spreading the disease; and whether prompt steps will be taken to prevent this practice?

Mr. Hudson

The sale of cows reacting to the tuberculin test is not, on that account, restricted. In view of the very much larger number of untested cattle which, if tested, would react, no such restriction would serve any useful purpose.

Mr. Adams

Is the Minister aware that many cows seriously affected with tuberculosis are permitted to be put on the market and disposed of as healthy cows? Is that satisfactory?

Mr. Hudson

That is merely repeating the Question on the Paper which I have answered.
