HC Deb 30 July 1942 vol 382 c685
46. Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Prime Minister which Minister is responsible to the House for the proper development of air transport for war purposes?

Mr. Attlee

The Secretary of State for Air under the War Cabinet is responsible. The design, development and production of transport aircraft, to the specifications and requirements of the Secretary of State for Air, are, however, the responsibility of the Minister of Aircraft Production.

Mr. Garro Jones

Is my right hon. Friend aware that the record of the Air Ministry in the sphere of air transport, whether civil or military, is not an inspiring one, and will he, in view of the growing importance of this subject, ask the War Cabinet to apply some stimulus to that body on the lines of developments in the United States?

Mr. Attlee

I will consider that point.
