HC Deb 30 July 1942 vol 382 c804
The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Peake)

I beg to move, That an humble Address be presented to His Majesty in pursuance of Subsection (1) of Section eleven of the Emergency Powers (Defence) Act, 1939, praying that the said Act as amended by any subsequent enactment be continued in force for a further period of one year beginning with the twenty-fourth day of August, nineteen hundred and forty-two. I do not think that any Member would either require or welcome a long explanation of this Motion. Under the ordinary procedure, the Emergency Powers Act would expire on 23rd August, and it is obviously necessary to prolong it by means of an Order in Council for a further year.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved, That an humble Address be presented to His Majesty in pursuance of Sub-section (1) of Section eleven of the Emergency Powers (Defence) Act, 1939, praying that the said Act as amended by any subsequent enactment be continued in force for a further period of one year beginning with the twenty-fourth day of August, nineteen hundred and forty-two.

To be presented by Privy Councillors or Members of His Majesty's Household.
