HC Deb 28 July 1942 vol 382 c303
25. Mr. David Adams

asked the Secretary of State for War how many staff officers aged over 61 are now employed in this country; and whether the Government's policy in regard to the employment of these officers is being uniformly applied?

Sir J. Grigg

In December, 1941, 59 staff officers of the rank of major and above, aged more than 61, were serving in the United Kingdom. I regret that no more recent figure is at present available. With regard to the second part of his Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for South Croydon (Sir H. Williams) on 5th May.

Mr. Adams

Will the Minister bear in mind the fact that there is excellent material here, which is still unemployed?
