§ 8. Mr. Toucheasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that cases have arisen of officers on sick leave receiving notification of the termination of their employment taking effect as from a date considerably prior to the date of notification to the officer concerned; and whether, as this practice is both unfair to officers and prejudicial to the reputation 300 of the Army Council, he will take steps to prevent its recurrence?
§ Sir J. GriggThe regulations prescribe the maximum periods of sick leave on full pay which are admissible, and every endeavour is made to ensure that all officers receive in advance a warning letter as to the date of cessation of pay. I am aware, however, that isolated cases have occurred where it has not proved possible to give such advance notification and steps are under consideration to avoid any such cases arising in the future.
§ Mr. ToucheDoes my right hon. Friend think it right to tell an officer in January that his employment terminated on 1st November?
§ Sir J. GriggAs I said, of course I do not think it is right, and I hope I have taken steps which will ensure that it does not happen in future.
