asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the introduction of special legislation to legalise marriage by proxy of men in the Services?

Whether the advantages of such a change in our marriage law would outweigh the disadvantages is a question requiring careful consideration. The subject is receiving the attention of the Service Departments, but I am not at present in a position to make a statement.
