HC Deb 15 July 1942 vol 381 c1206
9. Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Imperial College of Tropical Agriculture, Trinidad, is reserved for white students only?

The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

No, Sir.

Sir Leonard Lyle

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that, when I last visited Trinidad in 1938, there were at the Imperial College, of which I am a governor, Chinese, Malayans, Burmese, and very many coloured students?

Mr. Macmillan

A very high proportion of the students are non-Europeans.

Sir Patrick Hannon

With regard to this admirable institution, do not the latest reports show that it has been admirably administered all the time?

Mr. Macmillan

Yes, Sir.
