HC Deb 15 July 1942 vol 381 c1202
2. Mr. William Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that young civilian women clerks are being released from clerical duties at the Record Office, Ruislip, for more important war work whilst numbers of airmen in Grade 1, medical category, are being retained on the work from which women are being released; and whether he will cause inquiries to be made into the desirability of retaining the women, if the work is sufficiently important, and releasing the men for more active duties?

Sir A. Sinclair

The policy at this establishment is to employ on clerical duties either airmen who are in Grade II medical category or over 41 years of age, or immobile women. Accordingly, Grade 1 airmen and young mobile unmarried women are being replaced concurrently as rapidly as the supply of alternative labour permits.
