HC Deb 14 July 1942 vol 381 cc1076-7
58. Mr. Summers

asked the. Minister of Information whether it is intended to show the film, "Next of Kin," in America; and, if not, why not?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Information (Mr. Thurtle)

Up to the present we have not had any offers for the distribution of this film in America. Any offer that we do get will be considered on its merits.

Colonel Arthur Evans

Is it not a fact that there is a film division in the Ministry of Information, with its representative in America, to deal with problems of this kind; and may I ask whether the official concerned has taken any steps to see that this film is exhibited in the United States of America?

Mr. Thurtle

We are expecting advices on this matter very shortly from our friends in America.

Sir Waldron Smithers

Why cannot the Ministry of Information take the initiative in some cases and try to get this film distributed without waiting for orders?

Mr. Thurtle

This film was not made for us but for the War Office, and we are acting solely as distributing agents.
