§ The Chairman of Ways and Means (Sir Dennis Herbert)I beg to move,
That Standing Order 242 shall have effect as if for the proviso to that Order the following proviso were substituted: 'Provided always that the provisions of this Standing Order shall not apply to an adjournment from a day in one week to a day in the following week.'The explanation of this Motion is very simple, and I think I ought to give it to the House. It is merely a question of extending the week-end so that it does not finish until the day on which we now normally commence our series of Sittings.
