HC Deb 08 July 1942 vol 381 c769
50. Mr. Mathers

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he will follow the closing of factories producing soft drinks by the closing of breweries, thus saving fuel, valuable grains and other materials, and assisting the Government campaign against unnecessary expenditure?

Mr. Mabane

No, Sir. My noble Friend considers the present restrictions are sufficient in existing circumstances.

Mr. Mathers

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the failure to apply any effective restriction upon beer is interpreted as an indication that the Government are distrustful of those who consume beer and that this also causes distrust of their own determination?
