§ 17. Sir J. Mellorasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he can now make a statement with regard to the issue to the Armed Forces of a form of warrant which shall be valid as a railway ticket and obviate delay at booking offices?
Sir A. SalterWhile this proposal presents certain difficulties, it is being actively pursued and I am hopeful that a decision will shortly be reached. I will then communicate with the hon. Member.
§ Sir J. MellorIs it right that the public should continue to suffer while the Ministry are taking so much time to make up their mind?
Sir A. SalterThe arrangements do, of course, involve a great deal of clerical work in the Service Departments, but I fully realise the great advantage of what the hon. Gentleman has in mind.
§ Mr. A. C. ReedHas the right hon. Gentleman seen the warrant issued to a soldier, which has 40 or 50 different headings, and would it not be possible to have a small form on which the soldier's name 753 could be filled in, leaving out all the other headings, as this would save a great deal of labour?
