§ 49. Mr. Higgsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware of the anomalies that exist with regard to the special 5s. licence granted for agricultural tractors; and, in view of the decrease of traffic on the roads due to petrol restriction and the increasing importance of agriculture, will he give a more generous interpretation to this licence, as it is very popular with farmers?
§ Sir K. WoodI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Lincoln (Mr. Liddall) on 20th November last. I regret that I cannot see my way to reduce the licence duties payable on tractors to which the concession which I then announced applies.
§ Mr. HiggsIs the Minister aware that this licence permits the haulage of goods to a railway station and not to a market, and that if a farmer has two separate farms, he cannot haul his goods from one to the other? Will he not give this matter further consideration?
§ Sir K. WoodThis matter was considered, and I made a concession. I do not think I can do more at the present time.
