§ 60. Mr. Lipsonasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will instruct his Regional Officers to give sympathetic consideration to the application of elderly clergymen who are in charge of scattered parishes, in some instances replacing colleagues who have become chaplains, for E supplementary petrol rations, which would enable them to replace worn out motor-car tyres?
§ The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Fuel and Power (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)I sympathise with the hon. Member's proposal and have already given instructions that this should be done.
§ 61. Major Lyonsasked the Minister of Fuel and Power what steps have been taken to curtail petrol for the service known as drive-yourself-hire?
§ Mr. LloydThe steps already taken in addition to normal rationing procedure are indicated in the Motor Fuel (Hire Service) Order, 1941, Statutory Rules and Orders, 1941, No. 1745. As to further steps, I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answer which my right hon. and gallant Friend gave him on 23rd June.
§ Major LyonsIs it not a fact that this particular abuse has been under consideration month after month, and does the Minister intend to withdraw absolutely the definite pledge which he gave to the House on 17th March last that this curtailment would take place on 1st July?
§ Mr. LloydWe decided to make the Order more comprehensive by the inclusion of taxis, and that has caused the delay.
§ Major LyonsWhat has been done by 1st July, as definitely promised by the hon. Gentleman on 17th March last, in the matter of this abuse, which he has had under consideration month after month?
