§ 31. Mr. Sorensenasked the Home Secretary whether any steps are being taken to secure statistical research into juvenile delinquency; and whether any full report is likely to be published respecting recent investigations?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonSome time ago the Director of the London School of Economics and Political Science was good enough to undertake an inquiry into this subject on behalf of the Home Office, and I understand that the report of the results is shortly to be published. A summary of the result of these investigations has been circulated to the juvenile court justices, and I will send my hon Friend a copy.
§ Mr. BensonIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that the basis on which these statistics are collected is entirely inadequate and that it is not really a question of examining the statistics which are available but of changing the basis of their collection?
§ Mr. MorrisonThere may be room for controversy about the matter. It is an exceedingly difficult question. I am sure the London School of Economics have done their best.
§ Mr. BensonI agree that the London School of Economics have done their best, but they have not the material to work on.
