HC Deb 29 January 1942 vol 377 c899
18. Mr. R. C. Morrison

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the difficulties amongst key-men employed in engineering works and paid on a weekly basis, with regard to uncertainty as to their terms of employment, in particular, payment for overtime and stoppage for sickness; and will he consider instructing employers to give weekly servants a clear statement in writing of the terms of their employment?

Mr. Bevin

I am not aware of any difficulties arising out of uncertainty as to terms of employment in the engineering industry. Wages and conditions of service in this industry are the subject of agreements between the organised employers and the trade unions, and any difficulties which may arise are matters for settlement by the parties concerned in accordance with the recognised procedure in the industry.
