asked the Minister of Labour, in view of the fact that many members of the Civil Defence forces are now being called to the colours who were previously employed in a skilled trade, whether he will give instructions that particulars of such former employment shall be obtained and noted?

Mr. Tomlinson

All men when called up are interviewed in order to ascertain whether they have any special skill or experience which may affect their posting in the Service which they are joining.

Could not they be better employed somewhere else?

Mr. Tomlinson

This does not arise when they are called up for the Services.

Will the hon. Gentleman have the matter considered? It is of very great importance.

A man's capacity is inquired into before he joins the Civil Defence Service.
