HC Deb 20 January 1942 vol 377 cc181-2
7 and 8. Mr. Granville

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (1) whether the Government of South Africa has been consulted recently on the question of the formation of an Empire War Cabinet; and with what result?

(2) whether the Secretary of State is to represent the Dominions at meetings of the Allied War Council or whether they will send their own delegates; whether the question of an Empire War Cabinet was discussed at the recent conference at Ottawa; and with what result?

The Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr. Shakespeare)

I understand that the Prime Minister, in the statement on the war situation which he proposes to make at an early date, will deal so far as may be necessary with the issues raised in these two Questions. My hon. Friend will, therefore, perhaps await this statement.

Mr. Granville

Is the Dominions Office consulted at all on these questions, and does the Secretary of State for the Dominions still attend all meetings of the War Cabinet when these subjects are under discussion?

Mr. Shakespeare

Yes, that is so.
