HC Deb 08 January 1942 vol 377 c30
49. Mr. A. Edwards

asked the Prime Minister the duties of the Ministry of Reconstruction and the Ministry of Works and Buildings; and whether he has decided upon a Department of Post-War Planning?

Mr. Attlee

As the House is aware, my right hon. Friend the Minister without Portfolio is in general charge of the study of post-war problems. The relationship between his duties and the duties of my Noble Friend the Minister of Works and Buildings was explained by me in answer to a Question on 20th February last, a copy of which I am sending to my hon. Friend. Further information as to the arrangements which have been made for dealing with post-war planning were given to the House in a statement made by the Government on 17th July of last year. If and when any alteration is made in these arrangements, the House will, of course, be informed.

Mr. Edwards

Is the Minister aware that the Ministers concerned are still very uncertain about their duties and powers?

Mr. Mander

Will the Minister without Portfolio take an early opportunity, as he indicated, of explaining to the House what he is doing?

Mr. Attlee

I have already said that an opportunity with be sought.
