HC Deb 08 January 1942 vol 377 c12
15. Major Peto

asked the Minister of Health whether he will consider appointing an inter-departmental committee, representing all the Ministries concerned, with co-opted competent people from the outside, to co-ordinate and develop the nursery and after-care of young children In time of war?

Mr. E. Brown

The President of the Board of Education and I have already appointed an executive committee of officers of the two Departments, under the chairmanship of Sir Wilson Jameson, Chief Medical Officer of the two Departments: consultation with the Ministry of Labour and the Supply Departments has been maintained by regular meetings of officials of the Department. A contact circle between officers of the Ministry and the Board and women experienced in the problems of child care was established at the outset of this work, and regular meetings have been held.

Miss Cazalet

Is my right hon. Friend satisfied with the speed, in this matter?

Mr. Brown

I am never satisfied.
