HC Deb 25 February 1942 vol 378 cc184-5
20. Mr. Logan

asked the Minister of Aircraft Production whether the investigating committee have investigated the complaints made by five shop stewards in a certain factory; and whether the management and men are now satisfied that the fullest production will be achieved?

Colonel Llewellin

If my hon. Friend will let me know what he has in mind I will have inquiries made.

Mr. Logan

When such a deputation comes to this House instead of going to those in charge in the industry, cannot arrangements be made in the right hon. and gallant Member's Department for the deputation to be received there accompanied by a Member of Parliament, instead of leaving them to be turned away to go back to the City of Liverpool, and thus avoid these delicate questions being raised in this House?

Colonel Llewellin

I am afraid that I do not know the details of this case. When my hon. Friend put down the Question I did not know to which factory he referred. If he will have a talk with me on future questions, I shall be glad to go into the matters.

Mr. Ness Edwards

As this condition of things is typical of the aircraft industry, will the right hon. and gallant Gentleman take an early opportunity of indicating to the House what plans he has for ending this chaos in the aircraft industry?

Colonel Llewellin

I think that is rather too general a statement. If my hon. Friend will tell me what he means, I shall be glad to go into the question.

Mr. Edwards

Is that the answer that is to be given to 7,000 men after 18 months?

Mr. Kirby

Will the right hon. and gallant Gentleman be good enough to pay particular attention to this factory, because from my personal knowledge many dozens of machines there are lying idle to-day?

Colonel Llewellin

I have already said that I would do so, but I think it would be better if my hon. Friend and I first discussed which factory it was.
