HC Deb 25 February 1942 vol 378 c214
79. Mr. Hewlett

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the fact that the county of Angus is the only county in the British Isles that has not paid a war bonus to their teachers, he proposes to take any action in this matter?

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. T. Johnston)

I am aware that the education authority for the county of Angus is the only one in Scotland which has not as yet decided to pay a war bonus to its teaching staff, but I understand that the authority is now giving further consideration to the question. The payment of war-time increases of teachers' salaries is a matter which lies entirely within the discretion of the employing authorities.
