HC Deb 18 February 1942 vol 377 cc1773-4
1. Professor Savory

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the High Commissoner for Eire left with the Foreign Office a copy of the protest presented by the Minister for Eire at Washington against the landing of American troops in Northern Ireland; and whether he has any statement to make on the evidence to this effect laid before him by the hon. Member for the Queen's University of Belfast?

Mr. Eden

As I stated in reply to a similar Question put to me by the hon. Member on 11th February, Eire affairs are dealt with by the Dominions Office; as regards the second part of his Question, the statement contained in the Bulletin of International News, a copy of which he was good enough to hand me, proved on inquiry to be without foundation.

Professor Savory

Would the Minister inform the Royal Institute of International Affairs that their bulletin reports are erroneous and misleading so far as that statement is concerned?

Mr. Eden

I think that conclusion may be drawn from my answer.
