§ 56. Commander King-Hallasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he will consider rationing alcoholic liquor and tobacco on the basis of preferential treatment to members of the Fighting Services and workers engaged in occupations covered by the Essential Work Order.
Major Lloyd GeorgeNo, Sir. I have no evidence that the Fighting Services and workers engaged upon essential production are not obtaining a fair share of the available supplies of alcoholic liquors. They have access to the ordinary facilities available to the public, and they may also obtain alcoholic refreshment at their own canteens where such canteens have been provided. My right hon. and gallant Friend the President of the Board of Trade is not prepared to ration cigarettes and tobacco at the present time.
