HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 c1924
51. Mr. Mort

asked the Minister of Supply the number of men, classified as time and motion study experts, engaged in Royal Ordnance factories and their average age?

The Minister of Supply (Sir Andrew Duncan)

One hundred and nine men and 15 women in the grades of engineer, assistant grade I and assistant grade II are employed on time and motion study in the Royal Ordnance Factories. The average age of the men is 36.

Mr. Mort

Does the right hon. Gentleman, from his previous experience of industry, consider it necessary to have a separate organisation to perform these functions, and particularly that they should be termed experts when their main qualifications seem to be that they know how to work a stop watch?

Sir A. Duncan

I am satisfied from my experience that such an organisation is necessary.

Mr. A. Edwards

May we expect an early report from the experts at present studying slow motion in the right hon. Gentleman's Department?
