HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 cc1893-4
5. Captain Cunningham-Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why Princess Olga of Yugoslavia has been allowed to leave this country during the war?

Mr. Eden

Princess Olga is still in this country. She came for a special purpose, and when that purpose has been fulfilled, His Majesty's Government see no reason why she should not return to Kenya.

Captain Cuningham-Reid

Has not this lady been allowed to be in a position whereby, if she returns to Kenya, she will be able to convey information to her quisling husband which might be invaluable to the Axis?

Mr. Eden

The circumstances are well known. Princess Olga was the only sister of the Duchess of Kent who could come to this country at all and the Government gave their consent. It was with the Government's full authority and with their approval, and I have no apology to make for it.
