HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 c1906
28. Sir Herbert Williams

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Planning the number of mechanical diggers and lorries, respectively, engaged on the removal of a dump of earth, the location of which has been disclosed to him; the daily gallonage of fuel used; and whether the removal is for an amenity or a war purpose?

Mr. Hicks

I understand that one mechanical digger and six lorries are engaged on this work and that 93 gallons of fuel are used on an average daily. I am looking further into the necessity for continuing the work.

Sir H. Williams

Is the Minister aware that what is happening is that they are moving earth from one park to another?

Mr. Hicks

I think the hon. Gentleman should understand that it was an arrangement, when an important building was being constructed nearby, to make a dump which could eventually be cleared away.

Sir H. Williams

Are not they making a dump in another park?

Mr. Hicks

No, Sir.
