asked the Home Secretary whether officials above the rank of chief officer in the prison service have been brought within the special provisions of the Superannuation Act for Prison Officers, 1919?

43. Mr. Brown

asked the Home Secretary the rank and salary of the Governors and Deputy-Governors of the prisons at Brixton, Holloway, Durham, Birmingham, Liverpool, Bristol, Dartmoor and Manchester; the class of prisoners received in each prison; and the approximate numbers of each class of prisoner in custody at each establishment on 1st November, 1942, respectively.

As the answer involves a number of figures, I will, with permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT. I may say that in the time available it has only been possible to obtain figures for the total population on 3rd November last in each of the prisons
