§ 7. Mr. Ralph Ethertonasked the Minister of Labour, what representations he has received from the Board of Trade on the call-up of key-workers, without any opportunity in certain areas for firms to obtain any deferment, in the un- designated section of the light clothing industry, with a view to slowing down temporarily such call-up pending concentration and to avoid the extinction of almost all undesignated firms?
§ Mr. BevinThis matter has been under discussion between my Department and the Board of Trade. I am willing to allow reasonable time for concentration arrangements to be completed, but in view of the demands for man-power quick decision on the part of all concerned is imperative.
§ Mr. EthertonWill the right hon. Gentleman give an assurance that there is no intention of squeezing out any small firms?
§ Mr. BevinI assure my hon. Friend that these powers are not being used to squeeze out anybody. They are only being used to get the necessary manpower for the Forces.
