HC Deb 03 December 1942 vol 385 c1294
46. Mr. Hannah

asked the Prime Minister whether, in order to dispel the unrest and apprehension caused in various services by recent events, he will give an assurance that in future no one who is in Government work and performing his duties to the satisfaction of his superiors will be displaced merely by reason of age?

Mr. Attlee

The general Service practice is that no-one is replaced by reason only of age, unless his age is such that he cannot be expected to perform his duties with full efficiency.

Mr. Hannah

Have the Government realised the terrible plight of Rehoboam when he dismissed the counsel of the old men and turned to the young men?
